While the world is moving towards a COVID-free environment with the help of vaccines, there is one particular country going in the opposite direction. At present, India is under high alert and in a state of emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak.
It is to be noted that India is one of the largest countries in the world by size and the second largest in terms of population. The country reportedly has a population of 1.36 billion and as per predictions, it will soon surpass China, which is at 1.39.
With a coronavirus outbreak in the country, it is almost impossible to control the situation in a matter of weeks because there are too many people all over the country to handle.
At present, India is reporting more than 350,000 new cases for COVID-19 every day for an entire week. Although the death toll has been comparatively lower than expected, the situation has just started worsening.
The main reason is that the hospitals and private medical facilities in the country are running out of supplies and medical equipment. Even the hospitals do not have any more space to fit any more patients inside.
People are literally losing their lives on the roads and streets as their families are leaving them because they have no other choice left. To make this even worse, the hospitals have started reporting that they are running out of oxygen and only have few days of stock left.
After that, the situation would become direr for the country and the death toll will start rising at an unstoppable rate.
This is the time when the people of India are in need of all the support they can get from all over the world.
While countries from around the world are trying their best to help India, the cryptocurrency industry is also determined to do the same.
As per the latest reports, the cryptocurrency community has recently managed to raise $2.2 million for the people of India fighting a life and death fight with COVID-19.
The firm that led the fundraising for the Indians fighting COVID-19 is Polygon whose co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal took the initiative of launching a fundraising round.
He had officially announced the launch of the fundraiser on April 24, 2021, through his Twitter account. While making the announcement, he requested the entire Twitter community as well as the cryptocurrency community to come forth and show their love for humankind.
He announced that anyone willing to donate could do it by sending tokens to an address belonging to ERC20.
Apart from Nailwal, Vitalik Buterin, Balaji Srinivasan, Bree Lee (a crypto proponent), and many more have also donated towards the same cause.
